Maximise room and desk productivity.

If we maximise room and desk productivity, could that help our overcrowded capital? It will be of little surprise to those who work or visit London regularly that statistics unearthed by Cloudbooking show the capital is 18 times more densely populated than the UK average. Whilst this small island has an average of 257 people per sq km, London has 4726 and this explains why it’s at breaking point.  It’s gridlocked, expensive and stressful. However, London is still one of the world’s great business cities.

At Cloudbooking we assist businesses with improving the way they work, we thought we would look into just how jammed our capital is. Using figures produced by the University of the West of England, we came out with this statistic demonstrating the problem London is facing.  Whilst some heavyweight businesses have moved their UK headquarters out of London, HSBC and Deutsche Bank to Birmingham. Nothing will challenge London’s pulling power for the majority.  Sadly many business leaders are not looking at how they can make things better for the benefit of their business and their employees.

Smarter workplaces

Businesses need to work smarter and more efficiently.  By asking searching questions about how they can maximise room and desk productivity. For example, they need to embrace technology like never before. The know-how is already here and can allow businesses to employ a more agile workforce.  The younger employees (millennials), in particular, are crying out to be happy and flexible. So by allowing staff to work where they want whether that’s hot desking or remotely we as businesspeople need to accept that.

We also need to be more efficient in how we run our organisations. Using cutting-edge technology to book rooms, desks, visitors and VC. This kind of efficiency and flexibility in cities like London with millions passing through each day is crucial.  Cities like Birmingham and Manchester in the UK will benefit as the world hubs readjust to the ever-changing landscape. We believe the global powerhouse cities need to be more forward thinking.

London, New York, Paris etc, despite their problems will continue to be the go-to places.  However, innovators in technology are increasingly being called upon to help solve the pain many facilities managers feel due to inefficient practices. Those in power need to put this question at the top of their agendas. Facilities managers will respect them for doing so. But more importantly, shareholders will be delighted when they see how it improves the bottom line.
